Author Interviews

Celine Rose Mariotti : Author of ‘I Have a Friend on Jupiter’ (Interview)

Good afternoon fellow bookworms. ^_^

Today, I would like to introduce a special guest whom I’ve had the privilege to interview. Please welcome Celine Rose Mariotti, author of I Have a Friend on Jupiter.

It was a pleasure to speak with Celine.
Below are the answers to some of my burning questions about her work.

What genre do you write and why?

I like to write science fiction and fantasy, mystery/detective stories,

jupiter.jpgghost stories and political adventure. Growing up I always liked the space program and followed all the space exploration. One of my favorite TV programs was “Lost in Space”. My interest in outer space fired my imagination and I got the idea to write “I Have a Friend on Jupiter” which is about two kids, Carlos and Indiana who find a website where they can write to aliens from outer space. They both find a friend on Jupiter.

I love mystery stories, especially the mystery/detective stories, and I always enjoyed watching “Columbo”, “Matlock” and “Murder, She Wrote” and still watch them on the Hallmark Channel. I was always interested in the Father Brown series written by H.K. Chesterton and the Father Dowling series written by Ralph McInerty. I guess that’s what inspired me to write my Rev. Castle series in which the Baptist Minister, Rev. Clayton Castle solves mysteries with the help of the Lord Who appears to him.

Then I have my ghost story “Olivia MacAllister, Who Are You?” which takes place in Maine and is for children ages 8 and up. In this book, Bobby and Noel come to visit their Uncle Eb and learn all about their ancestors. One in particular, Olivia MacAllister, appears to them and they set out to find the truth of how Olivia died and reunite her with her love, Joseph Montgomery, who is also a ghost. The illustrator for the book is Bob Veon.

I also have a political adventure/mystery series entitled “Adventures on Capitol Hill”. The first book in that series is “The Kidnapping of Senator Andy Thompson” and the second one is ”The Murder of Secretary Judd Cane”. All of these books are being published by Dreaming Big Publications.  I love to follow politics and that was my inspiration to write this series.

Where can readers purchase your book?

They can purchase it on Amazon right now and in a couple of months they can purchase it on Smashwords. They can also buy a print book from me and can e-mail me at to obtain an order form. I’ll order the books from my publisher, autograph them and mail it to the reader.

How do you research your books?

For the most part I use the Internet and sometimes if I know a particular person is knowledgeable on a certain subject, I submit questions to them. I also use reference books or other books on a similar subject.

Who or what inspired you to become a writer?

I have always liked to write since I was a kid and I was the happiest kid in the class when the teacher asked us to write a poem or story. When I was a senior in high school I took a Creative Writing course with a teacher named Mrs. Anderson. She always told me my stories could all become books someday as I had a lot to say. I took writing courses in college too. I started submitting to publishers when I was a senior in high school and started my subscription with the Writer Magazine which I have maintained all these years.

Does your family support you in your writing career? How?

My Mom and sister often give me their editorial input on my stories and they always encourage me in what I do. They also help me to pick out the covers for my books when the publisher sends me four different covers to pick from. And they both give me advice. They also come to my events.

My Dad and Uncle who have both passed away were always my biggest cheerleaders. My Dad always came with me for all my events. He would tell everyone he knew about my book. He was so proud of me. My Uncle enjoyed reading all my work. He was always proud of me and gave me encouragement. I always dedicate my books to their memory.

What are you currently reading?

I am reading several different books. I am reading Volume One of Mark Twain’s autobiography; Barbara Bush’s memoir; Charlanne Harris’ Aurora Teagarden “A Bone to Pick”; and a mystery by Louise Penny entitled “A Fatal Grace”.
