Introducing Shari Nichols (Author Interview)

Good morning fellow bookworms.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to beloved author Shari Nichols.

Shari Nichols grew up in a small town in Connecticut where haunted houses, ghosts and Ouija boards were common place, spurring her fascination with all things paranormal. Ever since she read her first Barbara Cartland novel, her lifelong dream has been to write sexy, romantic stories. Shari has been married to her own alpha hero for twenty-five years. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, going to the gym, or hanging out with family and friends.

Just as your books inspire authors, what authors have inspired you?

There are so many fabulous authors that have inspired me over the years with their words and their characters. I absolutely love Alice Clayton! Her books are filled with humour and heart. I had the pleasure of meeting the amazing Sylvia Day at an NJRW (New Jersey Romance Writer’s) conference and got an autograph and a picture with her. She was so kind and lovely. Her unique voice and her ability to create off-the-charts sensuality between her characters are some of the many reasons I fell in love with her books.

How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way they sound or the meaning?

Names are critical when it comes to creating believable, well developed characters. I remember my brother in law once told me about his uncle Thayne and described him as a tall, strapping man who had quite the reputation with the ladies in his youth. Immediately, an image began to take form in my mind. The name sounded so masculine and unbelievably sexy, I knew I had to create this larger than life character and make him jump off the page. As for my other characters, some are based on people I might know, some are based on people from TV and film. Sometimes just hearing a name sparks my imagination and I plot who that character could be and what drives them.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Boy that’s a tough one! There are so many! I’d love to have the power to know what people are thinking. It could save a lot of time and energy. Also, I’d love to have the power to make myself invisible so I could spy on my kids.

What’s on your bucket list (things to do before you die)?

I want to travel to as many exotic locales as possible, try the food, experience the culture, and learn about the people and the history. I’ve been talking about getting my Master’s degree for years. I’m still deciding in what. I would love to help my brother achieve his goals and participate in Special Olympics. I’ve always talked about taking a girls vacation with some really close friends and paying for the entire trip with all of my books sales.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

That’s an easy one! I would be a golden retriever. My beloved, dog, Buddy is a golden and they have the sweetest and most loyal dispositions. I could only aspire to be that adorable.

That’s about all we have time for today.
