Bound by Steel, by Connie Lafortune (Action-Romance Review)

‘Bound by Steel enveloped me in a world of intense, raw emotional need.’
(Daccari Buchelli.)

Told in rare second person perspective, Bound by Steel tells the tale of Alpha-type secret military operative, Ryker Steel, and Lyra- a book-loving young woman whom Ryker saves when Lyra crashes her car near his top-secret cabin.

As I read past Ryker and Lyra’s initial encounter, I saw a natural chemistry start to develop between the pair. It was as though they already knew each-other and this feeling persisted, if not increased as time went on.

Abject loneliness sparks an intense connection between the pair, leaving them at the mercy of their own emotions. I found it easy to relate to Lyra’s character with her intense interest in books, and the arts in general. However, I found it hard to share in Ryker’s profound sense of pain, considering the tragic past he has lived through.
Find it on Goodreads

What I did find refreshing was Ryker’s growing emotional sensitivity throughout the novel. Whereas most Alpha-male characters seem like the rest, locking down any emotion and only lusting after women and power (makes for rather one-dimensional male characters in my opinion), Ryker Steel has a softer side, which he buries three years prior to the start of the story’s events.

This man has witnessed some truly tragic events.

This book was a refreshing change from the novels I usually find myself reading.
Not just another Alpha story, but a complex narrative that deals in themes of
love, loss, and personal sacrifice.

My rating? 5 Stars!
Recommended reading age: 16-18 and up.

Recommended for lovers of romance, action/thrillers, and light-erotica.

Thank you for reading my review of Bound by Steel.
I hope you have a good week.

~ Mr D. Buchelli.

Before You Paint Me Black & White

Good morning fellow booklovers,

Today’s blog post will be a little different, but if you’re
willing to read it, I will be forever in your debt. ♥

This morning, my partner showed me an article that made me feel sick.
I wanted to cry, to scream and shout because this particular article targeted
a minority that I belong to.

However, I wasn’t angry for the reason most people would assume.
I was angry because a Transgender person thought they could force somebody
else to kiss them (and on LIVE TV, no less!)

NO! NO! NO!!

It doesn’t matter WHO you are, you have NO right to force someone to kiss you, or to force them to do anything else against their will.

This article upset me because it paints all Transgender people in a bad light, insinuating that we’re all about to force our tongues and identities down people’s throats.

But all publicity is good publicity, right?

This type of publicity honestly makes me hate my identity. I know that I shouldn’t, but
when one of our own LGBT+ community members goes and does something like
this, then the entire community feels the backlash of their actions.

While I will not be linking to the original article (for personal reasons), seeing so many
comments fuelled by hatred and mis-understanding made me feel like a monster, even though I had no part in this event.

That so many people can view me, and people like myself as an ‘IT’, a ‘Mentally Ill Individual’, a ‘HE-SHE,’ amongst other disgusting slurs, had tears rolling down my cheeks.

Not every Transgender person is the same and a lot of us just want to lead quiet, boring lives without hassle or risk of danger to ourselves.

Words hurt- a LOT!

No-one should have to feel as though they shouldn’t exist, to have their identity mocked and scorned by thousands of people who refuse to try and understand.

BUT,  neither should ANYONE be forced into something they don’t want to do. Not everyone will want to kiss a transgender individual, let alone a STRANGER on LIVE TV, and it would be wise for those in the LGBT+ community who think otherwise to seriously consider what they believe in, because NO forced intimacy is okay!

Thank you for reading this article. I’m sorry if it seemed a little ranty toward the end.

Please, keep yourselves safe, no matter who you are or how you identify, and try to learn to love one-another.

Incrusted: Official Release Day Blitz

Welcome To Our First Official Release Day Blitz Post

Introducing:  Incrusted: Hiding the Demon Within, by Annora Wilson.

To save myself, I must kill my own heartbeat.

I was that unique breed, the ‘werepire’ a rare and powerful one that was made from a deadly and impossible combination of a Vampire and a Werewolf.

But, I am no more than a sin to them. I am desperately trying to seek some answers, whilst my unknown enemies are on the prowl to destroy me, if I want to survive them, I need to know myself first.

Join Ingrid in her exciting game of life and death and see how she plays with her own fate.

Below is a tantalizing excerpt from Incrusted.

I had always felt like a stranger to the world etched in charcoal. The absence of the vibrant hues of color gave me a strangling feeling; a feeling that was unexplainable, a feeling that made my whole body shudder with an unbearable pain. The blindness, the fear of the unknown and the wretched memories attached to it, pinched several holes into my defenseless soul.

My soul-shattering agony wasn’t unknown to him either, in fact, I even had the delusion that he understood my pain in a way that no one else could ever fathom. But, it didn’t take him a blink of an eye to throw me right into the arms of darkness!

And now I was running in the middle of an unknown forest, from a bunch of enemies whom I never saw before. My enemies were as unknown to me as this ruffling forest, that was covered in an ominous veil of darkness. As the strong fragrance of blood and rotten flesh numbed my nostrils, all I knew was that I was running amidst an endless row of giant pine trees.

“Don’t look back!” I whispered to myself. My weak voice got overshadowed by the thunder like sounds of my panicked breaths. My heart had forgotten its sense of rhythmic breaths and was now pounding like crazy. Fulfilling the demand of the adrenaline rush in my body I ran, I ran with my full speed, yet I couldn’t escape them. Even my full strength was falling short in front of those night beasts. My aunt always taught me to trust my own strength, she told me that my belief in myself was far stronger than any force in this whole universe. Everything was gone, forget confidence, I wasn’t even sure if I knew myself anymore!

The hungry howls of those baying night creatures froze my senses. They were getting closer with each passing second, I had no idea how much more pressure my bruised feet could handle.

I knew that I was fighting a lost battle, they were the shadows of the devil, it wouldn’t take them a minute to kill me. But something inside me refused to accept defeat.

“I don’t want to die like this” I cried with my broken voice, aiming for the sky. Though I knew that there was no one listening to me, I knew my prayers would bounce back from the sky, then also I prayed, I prayed with the little ray of hope, that told me that this wasn’t the end for me. My feet gave up, the pain was unbearable, it felt like the white blankets of snow were made up of thousands of sharp pointed needles. The once green pine tree that now looked like it was showered in the snow, offered me its branch to lean on.

I rested my back against that giant pine tree to calm down my heaving chest. The cold bark was hard on my back, yet it soothed me somehow. And for a moment, it felt like the world stood still, the silence comforting yet horrifying at the same time. I had no idea what the next moment could bring.

After taking some deep breaths when I dared to look back, my hazy vision could detect some red footprints stained against the white snowy carpet. The slight hint of moonlight on the dove gray sky was making the white snow shine like glitter. My eyes got widened in alarm, Great! now it wouldn’t even take them a minute to find me, I thought while banging my head against the rough bark of the pine tree. The distant sound of howling had now turned into an aggressive and urgent grunting. I needed no more directions to detect that the bunch of werewolves had found me and were ready to rip my heart apart from my exhausted body.

I had no idea how many miles I had run, but all the muscles of my body were worn out and I had no once of strength left in me. When I tried to move, my feet slipped, I lost my balance and fell down. My face crashed into the icy ground, the dripping blood from my mouth, colored the white snow into saffron color. Before I could realize anything else, the shadow of a tall figure blinded my eyes. I knew who it was and what he wanted, I had reached the dead end and now there was no escaping.

I’ve already got chills!  ^_^ I love the dramatic feeling I get from this excerpt
and can’t wait to read the full book so I can post my Incrusted review.

Now for a few words from the author herself, Miss Annora Wilson.

About the Author

Thank you for stopping by to read about me. My name is Annora, I was a studious girl in my high school, I always loved to read and write stuff. I used to write stories when I was in school. Now, when I look back, they seem quite amusing to me.  🙂

When I got into college, I pursued my passion for writing, I really loved it as a hobby. Then Twilight came out. I absolutely loved the series. I finally found the genre that I loved. Somehow these vampire, werewolves and paranormal genre, in general, intrigued me so much.

I love to see how human relationships work and have always been fascinated with human psychology. When I write my characters, I get to know them better. I get to know how they feel, how they perceive. This helps me to understand not just myself, but those around me. My writing is like an Emotion Lab for me (believe me.) It has taught me so much!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing a sample of my work.
Please feel free to contact me as I am always open to discussions.

Rogue Mountains (A Paranormal Fantasy Review)

The Rogue Mountains, by Joshua Tarquinio:

I’ve never read a novel quite like this. 5 stars. Wonderfully imaginative.

Today, I’m reviewing Rogue Mountains, by Joshua Tarquinio, a novel set in the small town surrounded by mountains, where demonic creatures lurk. Twenty years since some mysterious events in Pittsburgh, these hellish abominations begin to grow in number, attacking whoever dares to step foot in their territory.

There were a lot of characters in this book and it was sometimes a chore to remember who was who. Our main figures are Jessica (a seductive local), Del Balentine (professional monster hunter), Jeremy (a young musician), Ariana (a future monster hunter), and lastly Mara (a supernatural being that dwells on Witch Mountain.)

All of these characters possess unique skills that serve them in this land of monsters, but it is their sense of strength and determination to be rid of these hellish creatures that binds them as friends and allies.

Find out more via Goodreads.comFind out more via

Tarquinio paints a vivid picture of how the locals have become accustomed to such creatures. Most townsfolk act in a casual manner, as though their circumstances were a normal, everyday thing to experience. We see the town’s meagre population dwindle as they strive to evolve, to adapt to their dangerous new world. The tension hardly ever lets up and kept me reading, eager for more bloodshed.

Nymphs, witches, demons, and incredible monsters are just some of the dangers the townsfolk face.

Overall, this made for an intriguing story that made good use of imagery, kept my attention, and took my imagination on a rollercoaster ride.

Rated 5 stars.
Recommended to lovers of urban fantasy and dystopian novels.

Thank you for reading my latest review.
I hope you’re having a pleasant week.  🙂

Going All In (An Erotic Mystery Review)

Going All In, by Stephanie. C. Lyons-Keeley, and Wayne. J. Keeley:

‘Erotic teasing leads to obsession.’

Set in New Fairfield, Connecticut (a destination well known for its terrible crimes and paranormal experiences), Going All In by author couple Stephanie and Wayne Keeley follows three suburban couples looking to spice up their weekly poker games, not to mention their love lives.

The first few lines of the novel instantly intrigued me- ‘Someone was dead. There was no doubt about it.’ This short, clever phrase had me hooked and intrigued me enough that I couldn’t help but to eagerly turn the pages, seeking answers to all of the questions now popping into my mind.

Three couples exist within the novel: Thomas and Scarlet, Katie and Steve, and Erin and Marty. During one of the group’s weekly poker games, a suggestion is made that the winner of each match choose any player (except for their spouse) to spend the night with.

Find the book on

At first, no-one seems sure of the idea, with the exception of Marty, a man who seems eager to commit as many adulterous acts as possible. I had no love for this character and honestly hoped that he would be the one to die at the end. His crude way of thinking, in addition to how he treated his wife throughout the novel was horrendous.

On the other hand, Steve’s character appears to be the most morally conscious, for he is the last to even consider the suggestion of sleeping with another person’s spouse. Despite what appears to be a dead-end marriage, Steve has major qualms about entering into such an agreement. Of all the characters, he was the most pure, hiding emotions of great desire and pain while trying to do the right thing by everyone. He never allows himself to act upon his emotions, no matter how cloying they may become. In all honestly, I was rooting for something good to come his way throughout the novel.

I loved the way in which the authors were able to foreshadow so much with so few words, e.g. after Scarlet seductively teases Marty’s character- ‘She had a bad feeling that she’d set something in motion that night, something that couldn’t be stopped.’ Immediately, I got the sense that something bad would happen, something final and set in stone. I recall the hairs raising on my arms as I read this phrase. It truly chilled me to my core.

The novel made for an enjoyable erotic comedy read, with sections that branched off into far darker territory.

Much darker themes such as childhood abuse and murder are afoot, but they aren’t the only negative themes displayed in this book. We also see the three female protagonists treated frequently as though their self-worth comes only from their physical appearance.

While this is a realistic viewpoint within our modern society, it seemed off that so many married men (friends no less) would feel so cold toward their wives, seeing them only as pieces of meat at times. Even the caring and morally conscious Steve seems more interested in a woman’s looks than in her brains. I feel that the stereotypical portrayal of men may have been a little too so, showing men of varying ages as all being the same. It made their characters appear not only shallow, but hollow too, as if there were no personality there besides wanton lust, except perhaps for Steve (on occasion.)

The main focal point of the men’s lust is Scarlet, a twenty-something year old blonde with luscious fake breasts that men can’t help but to gawk at. But, Scarlet is so much more than a nice body. We see her display a vast range of emotions, from lust to terror. She attempts to reach out to Steve at one point in the novel, seeking meaning and true companionship in her dismal life. Although Steve clearly has affections for Scarlet, he rebuffs her.

However, one man who never rebuffs Scarlet is Marty, though he is the last person Scarlet wants to become close with.

It is ultimately her beauty that drives Marty’s character to become obsessed with her as he is increasingly unable to separate their erotic poker games from his own reality.
Overall, Going All In made for a gripping novel with many complex themes. There wasn’t a wasted word and it is certainly a story which can be analysed from many angles. These two authors have an amazing gift for storytelling, particularly when it comes to creating vivid images within the mind, e.g. ‘…that hissed of death in the air; visceral, yet at the same time palpable, like the sight of the Grim Reaper’s scythe.’ This phrase paints an intricate picture of the author’s subject and stayed with me throughout the book.

Despite a rather abrupt ending, where little is said about the death of one of the main characters, this was by far one of my favourite reads of 2017.

Rated 5 stars, and recommended to lovers of erotica, romantic comedies, and mystery novels.

The EF76 Strain (Zombie Sci-Fi Review)

The EF76 Strain, by Howard Dunkley:

‘A dark and invigorating short read.’

Good morning fellow bookworms.  🙂

Today, I’d like to share my review of The EF76 Strain, by Howard Dunkley.
I’ve always been a fan of zombie-related films and novels, so let’s dive in.

The EF76 Strain
chronicles the life of residents of a small town after a strange virus begins to infect the human population. More specifically, the story follows Steven Wright as he traverses through the zombie hordes in his hometown.

From a pill that was created to help reduce hunger, (to help conserve food due to a food shortage) we see severe reactions, which transform neighbours and loved ones into vicious, bloodthirsty cannibals.

This classic zombie apocalypse style tale was not only stimulating, but thought provoking.

Learn More at

It felt a lot more realistic, as though I could one day find myself in a similar situation, unlike with most zombie tales I have read. Its fast pace kept me hooked, with a beginning loaded with tension.
Overall, a gripping tale that made my heart pound.

Rated a solid 4 stars.
Recommended to lovers of sci-fi, and zombie novels.

I hope you enjoyed my review and wish you all an amazing day.

The Truth: The Creation of Peradon

Good morning. This post may strike you as odd. It’s a little bit
different in that it reveals a deeper truth about myself.

Whenever somebody asks me how I came up with the idea of Peradon,
my four realmed world of elemental magic, I am suddenly gripped by
intense fear.

Can I tell them everything?

This is often my first thought, for as some of
you already know, Book One of The Peradon Fantasy Series, Phoenix, was loosely based on my life.

Now, I believe it is truth time.
*Okay, deep breaths.*

Here goes nothing.

I was nineteen (I believe) when I met a young man that intrigued me more than any other. He was sophisticated, charming, and funny- that word didn’t do his sense of humour justice. I soon became enamoured with this gorgeous young man, a human being so rare and seemingly perfect that he had to be real, right?

I was so very wrong.
At this point in our story, I’d like to explain a crucial truth about myself.

You see, I was born in the wrong body. I think that’s the easiest way to put it, for now.

I was born into a female form, from which I’ve only ever wanted to be free. The modern term for a person that feels stuck in this way is Transgender.

Now, I understand that some people don’t believe that this type of phenomena
exists, but please believe me when I say that it does, and it is not fun, not one bit.

Returning to our main story:

The charming young man that I had met was not at all what he seemed. Soon, his sweet words turned sour, the butterflies fluttering in my stomach, transformed into a gnawing regret.  It was shortly after we parted ways that I realized who I truly was inside.

What role do I play?
I remember asking myself this, over and over, in front of my bedroom mirror.

One song, from a popular disney movie entitled Mulan, best sums up how I’ve
always felt about myself and the body I was born in. From age six, I remember
watching Mulan for the first time and bursting into tears as this song was played.
At that time, I couldn’t understand why it made me cry so, but to this day, I consider
it to be one of the most important moments, if not THE most important of my childhood.

(Please read the small extract of Reflection, from the Mulan Soundtrack below.)

hqdefaultWho is that girl I see,
Staring straight back at me-
Why is my reflection someone I don’t know?

Somehow I cannot hide-
Who I am, though I’ve tried.
When will my reflection show who I am inside?

When will my reflection show who I am inside.

View the Original Song HERE:

So, now you know. This is why I always feel that sharp stab of fear when somone asks me how I came up with the world of Peradon, or the premise for Book One, Phoenix.

I decided to share this with you all today, not just because I wanted to give a completely honest answer to a common question I’ve been asked, but because in a few months time, I’m going to experience chest surgery and in all honestly, I’m so excited, but also
beyond terrified. It will be a big change, and although big changes are part of human life, we can never really prepare ourselves for them, fully.

Back when that charming, miraculous concept of a boy walked out of my life, I was heartbroken. He quickly became my lead inspiration for one of Phoenix’s main  characters, The Frost Emperor Ryore. Ryore is a man that seems sweet at first, coaxing his ‘love’ into a false sense of security before shortly becoming obsessed, to the point where anything sweet and kind about him disappears, along with the rest of his mask.

I must admit that I was a naive teenager at the time, thinking that everyone had some good in them, or at least that they’d act on the good parts within.  Violetta was thus inspired by myself, or should I say, my former self, given the physical form I was born into.

Does that make sense? I hope so.

Not only is Violetta naive, but she can be quite a headstrong character, insisting in her mind that she is right in her choices when she doesn’t always have the full picture. She is also a rather tragic character: all she wants is to find her own sense of freedom, to love
and be loved, and to heal the wounds of her own childhood.

With regards to that damned boy I’d met…

Ever since we lost contact, the fictional world of Peradon only continued to expand, with more characters appearing at every corner of my life, each wanting to play their parts.
Xyhoni, heir to the Earth Realm (and Violetta’s true mate), is a representation of everything I’d ever wanted in a partner.

He is a strong and courageous young man that will stop at nothing until true justice is served. He treats Violetta with kindness and respect, and makes her feel as though butterflies are constantly fluttering within her stomach, no matter how much time passes or how long they’ve been in each-other’s company.

Then, in May of this year, I met my Xyhoni for real.

I fell in love. Properly. For the first time ever!

Now, as Peradon continues to expand, I can look forward to many more adventures with Violetta Flame, with the knowledge that things always work themselves out in the end.  🙂

Thank you for reading this very personal blog entry.
I hope it has allowed you to see into my soul that little bit more.  🙂

-Mr D. Buchelli.
